Re: HUGH CARCELLA SCHOLARSHIP PROGRAM
The period set aside each year in District 10 (eastern) for affiliation of Local Unions with our District 10 (eastern) Scholarship Program is now open. The Scholarship Committee has elected to increase the value of each scholarship to $4000.00 each and the program will award six (6) scholarships. Since its inception our program has awarded 324 scholarships valued at a grand total of $969,600.00.
These Scholarships are financed by District 10 (eastern) Local Unions in accordance with a graduated affiliation fee based on membership. Please check with your Financial Secretary to make sure your 2008 fee has been pain in order to be eligible to participate.
In order to provide adequate time to distribute and process applications, your affiliation check should be submitted as soon as possible, but no later than March 1, 2008. Applications will be available, upon request, to affiliated Local Unions at their respective Sub-District Office after their fee has been received in Norristown. Please note: participation is limited to members, or children of members, from Local Unions affiliated with the District 10 (eastern) Scholarship Program.
Bulletion Board Notices relative to the Scholarship Program are enclosed. Please post them in conspicuous places. In order to provide an opportunity for all eligible persons to participate, every effort should be made to give wide publicity to the program. Officers and members are urged to encourage all those eligible to apply. If there are any questions regarding any aspect of the program, please call the Norristown office at (610) 631-8170.
On behalf of the Scholarship Committee, i extend our appreciation to all affiliated Local Unions for their excellent cooperation in the past. Providing higher educational opportunities for Steelworkers' children is a very rewarding endeavor. Once again, we request 100% affiliation and urge all Local Unions to participate in 2008.
